ABOUT THE JOB
The Licensed Optician position at Costco focuses on assisting members with eyewear selection, fitting lenses, and ensuring optical prescriptions are processed correctly. This role combines technical optical knowledge with strong customer service skills to help members find eyewear solutions that meet their needs.
Opticians in this role also support the optical department’s operations by measuring pupil distance, assisting with contact lens fittings, processing orders, and maintaining accurate records. The position requires attention to detail, technical expertise in optical dispensing, and a commitment to providing high-quality vision care services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist members in selecting eyeglass frames, lenses, sunglasses, and contact lenses based on their prescription.
- Measure pupillary distance (PD) and other optical measurements required for proper lens fitting.
- Examine and assist with fitting contact lenses and ensure proper use and care instructions.
- Process eyewear and contact lens orders using the department’s computer systems.
- Dispense completed eyeglasses and ensure frames are properly adjusted for members.
- Handle register transactions including payments, receipts, and order documentation.
- Maintain optical inventory by ordering, stocking, and organizing merchandise and supplies.
- Keep optical displays clean, organized, and visually appealing.
- Assist members with booking appointments for optometry services when necessary.
- Ensure all work complies with provincial optical licensing requirements and safety procedures.
