ABOUT THE JOB
The Pharmacist position at Costco focuses on dispensing prescription medications, supporting patients with medication guidance, and ensuring pharmacy services comply with provincial regulations and professional practice standards. This role also includes reviewing prescriptions for therapeutic appropriateness, monitoring patient records, and helping members understand proper medication use.
Pharmacists in this role may also participate in expanded scope activities permitted by provincial law, including medication reviews, prescription adaptations, patient follow-up, and collaboration with other healthcare professionals. The position requires strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and excellent member service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Dispense prescription medications accurately and apply appropriate auxiliary labels.
- Review prescriptions and over-the-counter medications for drug interactions, allergies, contraindications, dosage, and therapeutic appropriateness.
- Verify prescriptions and complete refills, including communicating with physicians when required.
- Educate patients on proper medication use, side effects, and general pharmacy care.
- Maintain and review confidential patient medication records and pharmacy documentation.
- Collaborate with registered pharmacy technicians and other healthcare professionals to support safe pharmacy operations.
- Conduct or support medication reviews, reconciliations, and patient follow-up where permitted by provincial regulations.
- Adapt, extend, or modify prescriptions within the scope of provincial pharmacy practice rules.
- Order and communicate laboratory tests as permitted by provincial regulations.
- Support pharmacy compliance, continuous improvement, and safe departmental procedures while assisting with supervisory duties when needed.
