ABOUT THE JOB
The Pharmacist is responsible for providing direct patient care, accurately dispensing prescription medications, and practicing within the expanded scope permitted by provincial regulations. This position plays a key role in maintaining medication safety, patient education, and regulatory compliance while collaborating with healthcare professionals to optimize therapeutic outcomes.
The role also includes overseeing pharmacy operations in the absence of the manager, supporting pharmacy technicians, and ensuring that Costco’s standards for quality, confidentiality, and member service are consistently upheld.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Dispense prescription medications accurately and apply appropriate auxiliary labels.
- Review prescriptions and over-the-counter medications to ensure therapeutic appropriateness, dosage accuracy, and patient safety.
- Provide patient counselling on proper medication usage, potential interactions, and side effects.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to resolve therapy-related concerns.
- Administer injections and vaccinations where permitted by provincial regulations.
- Conduct medication reviews and medication reconciliation services.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure strict confidentiality compliance.
- Order and interpret laboratory tests as authorized under provincial guidelines.
- Support and supervise pharmacy technicians, interns, and students when required.
- Ensure adherence to Costco policies and established pharmacy safety procedures.
