Optician / Contact Lens Practitioner – Costco, Kitchener, ON

Costco is hiring a licensed Optician / Contact Lens Practitioner in Kitchener, Ontario. In this role, you’ll help members select and order eyewear, measure key vision parameters, process optical orders, and support contact lens fittings while delivering accurate, professional, and friendly member service in a busy warehouse optical department.

ABOUT THE JOB

The Optician / Contact Lens Practitioner supports Costco members with eyewear and contact lens needs by recommending appropriate products, taking precise measurements, and ensuring prescriptions are filled accurately. You will use computerized systems to process orders, maintain inventory and merchandising standards, and follow established procedures for cash handling, safety, and optical department operations. This position requires maintaining valid provincial licensing and, where applicable, certified contact lens fitting credentials.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist members in choosing frames, lenses, sunglasses, and contact lenses based on prescriptions and individual needs.
  • Support appointment coordination and provide guidance for booking eye care visits when applicable.
  • Accurately measure pupillary distance (PD) using approved tools and procedures.
  • Determine appropriate placement for multi-focal and bifocal measurements with attention to detail.
  • Support contact lens services, including assessing fit using approved methods and assisting with contact lens dispensing.
  • Enter member orders into the system, place special orders with external vendors, and track order status.
  • Process payments and complete paperwork following cash handling and transaction procedures.
  • Dispense completed eyeglasses and contacts, making minor adjustments when needed to ensure proper fit.
  • Order and stock optical supplies and merchandise while following department standards for inventory control.
  • Maintain cleanliness and merchandising of displays, ensuring a safe and hygienic optical environment.
  • Oversee trainees/apprentices as required for certification or qualification processes.
  • Maintain licensing and professional requirements to remain in good standing with the provincial order.
