ABOUT THE JOB
The Pharmacist role at Costco is focused on delivering safe, accurate, and professional pharmacy services to members. This includes dispensing prescriptions, reviewing medication therapies, counselling patients, and helping ensure prescriptions are appropriate based on dosage, interactions, allergies, and other clinical considerations.
In this role, the pharmacist also supports broader pharmacy operations by maintaining patient records, collaborating with healthcare professionals, participating in patient care services permitted by provincial regulations, and helping uphold Costco’s standards for patient safety, confidentiality, and service excellence. The position may also include leadership responsibilities within the dispensary when required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Dispense prescription medications accurately and apply appropriate auxiliary labels.
- Review prescriptions and over-the-counter therapies for interactions, allergies, contraindications, dosage, and suitability.
- Verify prescriptions and process refills, including contacting prescribers when clarification is needed.
- Maintain and oversee patient medication records and confidential pharmacy documentation.
- Provide patient counselling on medication use, therapy expectations, and product-related questions.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to identify and help resolve drug therapy issues.
- Conduct medication reviews, reconciliation activities, and other pharmacy services permitted by provincial regulations.
- Administer medications or perform expanded-scope pharmacy duties where authorized by law.
- Support workflow organization by working closely with pharmacy team members, including registered technicians, interns, and students.
- Follow all Costco pharmacy procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.
